Last Friday I found out that my Grandma passed away. I flew out from Dublin on Tuesday to be in New York City, the city where she lived her whole life. The wake is on Wednesday and the funeral is on Thursday. It's always tough to lose a loved one, especially someone who has had such an impact on the person you have become. But my grandma's love lives on in the family she leaves behind.
Many friends have already expressed their condolences, which I really appreciate. Instead of sending flowers, my grandma asked that people donate to Champions for the Poor, which was one of her favorite charities. If you are at all inclined, any donation would be much appreciated.
The only other thing I ask: take a moment in the next couple days to call a loved one you haven't talked to in a while. I was fortunate enough to Skype my grandma a couple weeks ago and I am so glad that I did. It's so easy to think that the people we love will be around forever, but at some point we all have to pass on. So call or visit someone important to you and tell them how much they mean to you. The world could use a little more of that right now.
