"So close, yet so far away" has never been more true. This last week was really tough because the end is in sight, but there's still so much that has to happen before I leave Dublin. But the time definitely started to go by faster now that our visitors are starting to arrive! Two weekends ago Kendra's mom and sister arrived, and last week my brother Patrick showed up. This week my girlfriend Alyssa is flying out and after that it'll just be a sprint to the finish.
Work went by fine this last week. I'm slowly running out of projects to work on, and as my time here grows shorter it's harder to find things I will be able to complete before I leave. In addition, the courts here take a break in late August and September, so there's not too much legal work to do. Most of our energy is focused on the advice clinic and on preparing for the upcoming legal year. This has forced me to use a lot of self-discipline, since I'm working on stuff that I will never see the end (or really even the middle) of. But it's not always about seeing a project from start to finish - sometimes you just gotta do your part and pass it on.
Having Pat here has been great. It was really strange to see him here, but now it feels completely natural. We've spent a good amount of time in the city and a good amount of time bumming around in my apartment. I want to show him around and make sure he has a good trip, but it's hard to push myself to be really active because at this point I'm just really worn out.
Home can't come soon enough. I miss my family and friends and my city. But I'm forcing myself to take it slow and enjoy this last week, because I know I'm gonna miss it here as soon as I leave.
