One
of the obvious hard parts of jet lag is staying awake when your body
wants to sleep. One of the not-so-obvious hard parts is going to sleep
when your body wants to be awake. Thanks to this wonderful little
conundrum, I wasn't able to go to sleep Tuesday until pretty late. So
Wednesday was the first day since we've gotten here that I've really
been dragging around. It was tough to stay focused during work.
Megan
and I met with the lady in charge of the mediation center. This
situation was the perfect storm for nap time: it was in a warm office,
the lady talked to us A LOT in a warm, soft Irish voice, and it had been
about an hour since lunchtime. I tried so hard to keep my eyes open,
but my eyelids had other plans, and every time I blinked it was harder
to get them back open. She finally noticed and asked me if the jet lag
was getting to me. She said she felt for me because she had just gotten
back from the Caribbean. Thank goodness everyone here is so nice!
After
work Megan and I went downtown and met Kendra so we could all go out.
Megan is staying in the city center and has been here a month already,
so she was our unofficial tour guide. She tried to be decline the
position but 5 second later she was giving us historical facts about
various old building in the city. We eventually chose a pub at random
and went in to get some food, since we were all starving. The place was
really awesome, the staff was very friendly, and the food and drinks
were great. Just as we were winding down and getting ready to head home,
two guys came in, took out instruments, and started to play! They did a
combination of Irish music and old American rock songs. One guy played a
guitar and the other played an instrument that was like a bagpipe
without any bags. It was really cool, and sounded like Ireland should
sound. We had front-row seats and couldn't have planned it any better.
